Friday Night Waltz with Richard Powers - Oct. 25th

After decades of mostly 4/4 pop music, 1990s music saw an explosion of beautiful waltzes, plus new music for the full spectrum of social dance music, with a fresh new sound for a big swing and Lindy revival, plus new tango, hustle, merengue, polka, cha cha, WCS, and salsa music.

If you missed the 90s, catch up with a total immersion in 90s music for a night!
If you danced in the 90s, you'll have fond memories, and reunion with some others who were also there!

Richard Powers will teach the classes with Kimber Rudo from 7:15 to 9 pm. Richard is our dance music DJ from 9pm to midnight

7:15pm - 1990s Nightclub Two-Step Variations.  About a third of all popular music in the 90s was NC2S tempo, so many new variations were innovated at that time. For beginners, the basics will also be covered.  All of the music in the class will be from the 1990s

8:15pm - 30 Easy Merengue Variations in one class!  Before Bachata came along around 2000, Merengue was the most popular Dominican salsa dance in the 90s (and it's still done today)  The steps are so easy that we can look at dozens of figures, including many kinds of wraps and turns.  Again, all of the music in the class will be from the 1990s, so the class will be like a big dance party.

These are ALL-LEVELS class, no previous experience required. Both dances will be done at tonight's dance party.

Richard with Kimber and other Stanford Vintage dancers in the 1990s.

9:00 pm - 1990s Dance Party will feature Richard's favorite 90s dance music.

NOTE: Tonight is also the reunion for the Stanford Vintage Dance Ensemble There will very many skilled dancers. Everyone is welcome!
